Chico's 24 Hours of Summer Solstice at Albion Hills, Ontario

The biggest 24 hour mountain bike race in the world happened this last weekend and we were lucky enough to be a part of it. Having spent five weeks at this campground mountain biking and hiking the trails, we've gotten to know quite a few people. Steve was able to hook up with a few of them and get on their teams to participate. For those of you that don't know what a 24 hour bike race is...teams of 1-10 people trade off riding a 10 mile mountain bike lap over a 24 hour period. Yes, that includes all night long!

383 teams came from all over (1800 racers total) to ride through mud, rain, humidity, bugs and ten hours of total darkness. It was extremely well organized with bouncy things for the kids, great food and beer gardens, tons of shwag to win, pro racers to google over and 3,000 people camping together in the woods.

I volunteered at the half way point handing out Gatorade and offering words of encouragement to those losing their minds (like the ones doing it solo - yes, that's right, 24 hours of non-stop racing through the woods).

In the end, Steve even got to ride for the Kijiji team of Canada which might just go down as the highlight of this trip!
